EPA Senior Policy Advisors Step Down

(Washington, D.C.-December 14, 2004) EPA Associate Administrator Jessica Furey and Susan Mulvaney, chief of staff to the Deputy Administrator, today announced that they will step down as EPA senior policy advisors in January 2005. They have served the Agency since February 2001.
Jessica L. Furey is EPA’s associate administrator for the Office of Policy, Economics and Innovation. She oversees EPA coordination with the federal government in the areas of regulatory management, economic analysis and innovative approaches to environmental policy. Prior to her appointment, Furey served as counselor to EPA Administrator Whitman. Prior to joining EPA, she was executive assistant attorney general for the state of New Jersey and served as deputy counsel to Governor Whitman.
Susan Spencer Mulvaney is chief of staff to EPA Deputy Administrator Steve Johnson. She provides counsel on policy development, planning and management issues. Prior to assuming this position, she served as deputy chief of staff to EPA Administrator Whitman. Prior to joining EPA, Mulvaney was director of the New Jersey governor's Washington, D.C., office - a cabinet level position - where she represented New Jersey before Congress and the Administration.
Furey and Mulvaney will join the Whitman Strategy Group, an environment and public policy consulting group recently formed by former EPA Administrator and New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman and long-time senior advisors, as senior vice presidents.
