Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the East Lake YMCA hosted an Environmental Fall Festival to celebrate EPA’s commitment to Children’s Health. The sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students spent the day in a series of interactive sessions conducted by more than 30 volunteers from the EPA, Clean Air Campaign, Department of Energy, and Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital. The volunteers helped the students learn about the importance of preserving the environment and its effects on human health by conducting a series of stations that included recycling, pollution prevention, vehicle emissions testing, asthma education, lead awareness, solar powered fuel cells and more. This festival was developed to educate children about becoming environmental champions and possibly spark their interest in future careers in the environmental science field. |
