EPA to Celebrate Success of ReGenesis Revitalization Project

(ATLANTA – Sept. 16, 2008) On Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, EPA Regional Administrator Jimmy Palmer will participate in a full day of events celebrating the accomplishments of the ReGenesis Revitalization Project in Spartanburg, S.C. Through the ReGenesis Revitalization Project, the Arkwright and Forest Park neighborhoods in Spartanburg have overcome tremendous obstacles, such as cleaning up contaminated sites, securing health care, and working with an existing chemical manufacturing facility to ensure the community’s safety and provide job opportunities.

Participants will include EPA Region 4 Regional Administrator Jimmy Palmer; EPA Deputy Director for Brownfields Myra Blakely; Honorable Harold Mitchell, South Carolina State Representative and Executive Director, ReGenesis, Inc.; Spartanburg Mayor Bill Barnet; EPA Region 4 Environmental Justice Program Manager Cynthia Peurifoy; and EPA Brownfields Section Chief Philip Vorsatz.
