(Dallas, Texas – November 19, 2007) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $45,000 to the City of Alpine, Texas, to develop a regional solid waste feasibility study. As local landfills near capacity, a strategy for solid waste management is necessary to avoid negative human health impacts. Lack of adequate landfill capacity could lead to increased illegal dumping sites, natural resource contamination, and other negative environmental impacts. The goal of the study is to address the long-term solid waste management needs for the city’s service area.
