FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Kansas City, Kan., June 12, 2008) - The St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC), St. Louis, Missouri, has been selected to receive $500,000 of supplemental Revolving Loan Funds (RLF) to capitalize loans that are used to clean up brownfields. Nationwide, more than $6.3 million is being awarded to brownfields cleanup revolving loan fund grantees.
In an announcement today in Washington, EPA released a list of 16 RLF grantees, including the SLDC, which have been selected to receive supplemental funding for brownfields cleanup. The SDLC will use its supplemental funds to support loans to address hazardous substances and petroleum cleanup in the St. Louis metro area.
The SLDC was selected in 2004 to receive a $950,000 RLF grant to provide loans for the cleanup of hazardous substances. Those 2004 funds provided loans to support projects such as the cleanup of a former manufacturing site for development of new senior housing, and redevelopment of a surface parking lot into a public gathering place, complete with water features, trees, and public art.
The EPA Revolving Loan Fund program enables eligible states, cities, towns, counties, territories, and tribes to capitalize on revolving loan funds for use in cleaning up brownfields and facilitating their sustainable reuse.
Brownfields are sites where expansion, redevelopment, or reuse might be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
