WASHINGTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency presented its prestigious Partnership Awards to Alan Lynch and Harry Robidoux of Monroe County, Pa. for their contributions to the nation’s chemical emergency preparedness programs. They were among 11 award winners nationwide who were recognized during EPA’s tenth Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Prevention conference and award ceremony here on Sept. 22.
EPA’s mid-Atlantic region presents the partnership awards to companies, organizations or individuals who demonstrate exceptional creativity or innovation in state or local chemical emergency preparedness.
Lynch, who represents the Pocono Medical Center for Monroe County’s local emergency planning committee, spearheaded a cooperative planning effort with the committee to establish a written decontamination plan for the hospital. Lynch ensured that the hospital staff had appropriate training and established an area in the hospital emergency room to perform decontamination procedures.
Robidoux initiated a system of centralized planning and course registration for all fire, rescue and hazardous material training in Monroe County. He also worked with area schools to prepare for hazardous materials incidents, and has implemented programs that educate area residents and tourists on evacuation routes, sheltering in place and where to get information in the event of an emergency.
“These awards symbolize a special brand of dedication to environmental health and safety in our local communities,” said W. Michael McCabe, EPA regional administrator.
