EPA REVOKES REFRIGERANT CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
EPA revoked approval of Refrigerant Certification Services (RCS) in Houston, Texas, a technician certification program authorized under the Clean Air Act. Under the EPA program, technicians are required to pass an EPA approved test in order to receive identification credentials. This program certifies technicians to provide maintenance service, repair, proper handling and disposal of ozone-depleting refrigerants (chlorofluorocarbons). EPA revoked this program because RCS allegedly issued counterfeit certification identification cards without proper testing. RCS is no longer authorized to certify technicians or issue valid credentials. Technicians properly trained by RCS will remain certified. For more information concerning technician certification, contact the Stratospheric Protection Hotline at 1-800-296-1966.
