EPA SOLICITS PROPOSALS TO PROMOTE INTEGRATED
PEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
PEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs is soliciting grant proposals that, when implemented, will reduce the risks associated with pesticide use in both agricultural and non-agricultural settings in the U.S. The grants are available through the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program’s (PESP) Regional Initiative Grant Program. Projects that address PESP’s risk reduction goals, pollution prevention, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) or research methods for documenting trends that influence the adoption of IPM and other methods that reduce risks associated with pesticide use will be considered. Other projects also may be considered if they complement these goals. Over the past two years the PESP program has funded almost 30 projects aimed at reducing risks associated with pesticide use. These projects have included a wide range of investigations into the use of non-chemical means for controlling pests, the effectiveness of low risk chemical alternatives, and the development of IPM programs in schools. The grant program will be administered by EPA’s regional offices. Details are available in the March 6 Federal Register and through the EPA regional offices and on the Internet at: http://www.pesp.org.
