Bucks County Resident Honored with EPA Employee Award

PHILADELPHIA (May 21, 2007) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region presented its Customer Service Award to Brian Rehn, of Washington Crossing, Pa., at its annual Employee Recognition Ceremony on April 24.

This award is given to an employee who exemplifies excellence in customer service.

Rehn, an environmental engineer in the Air Protection Division, was honored for his calm, cool and collected approach to calls from the public about cars, trucks, fuels, mileage or car emissions.

Any call remotely related to automobiles is directed Rehn, known as the Air Quality Branch’s “mobile source guru.”

“In these days of high fuel prices, he gets calls that run the gamut from inventors of new gas-saving devices to irate consumers who are not getting the estimated mileage per gallon rate on their new cars,” said last year’s award winner Amelia Libertz. “Brian tries to calm flaring tempers and he always conducts himself in a concerned and professional manner. As a car aficionado himself, he puts himself into the callers’ shoes.”

“We think he is a customer service standout,” his nomination form stated.

Rehn, who has been with the U.S. EPA since 1991, graduated from Greater Johnstown High School in 1987, and received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering in 1991.

Rehn grew up in Johnstown, Pa., where his parents, Frank and Ila Jane Rehn still reside.
