EPA Administrator, Stephen Johnson Announces the Appointment of Elin D. Miller as Regional Administrator for the Pacific Northwest and Alaska

(Seattle, WA - October 6, 2006) - Administrator Stephen Johnson of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has named Elin D. Miller as the new Region 10 Administrator. She will be responsible for managing Agency programs in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska, beginning October 30.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Elin Miller to serve as Region 10 Administrator," said EPA Administrator, Stephen Johnson. "With over twenty years experience in leadership and management of environmental and agriculture issues, Elin brings a wealth of knowledge to the Agency.”

Most recently, Miller served as President and CEO of Arysta Life Science North America & Australasia, an agricultural chemical company based in Tokyo. From 1996-2004, she held various high-level executive positions at Dow Chemical, overseeing the company's public affairs, global pest management and Asia Pacific operations.

Prior to joining Dow, Elin was appointed and confirmed by the Governor as the Director of the California Department of Conservation, where she was responsible for regulating oil and gas production, as well as the state's mining, recycling and agriculture land conservation initiatives. She also served as the Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation at California (CAL)EPA.

Miller holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy/Plant Protection from the University of Arizona where she was a Rhodes Scholarship finalist. Elin also held the position of National Vice President of Future Farmers of America (FFA) and last year was elected 2008 National FFA Sponsor's Board Chair.

Miller will assume the position in which Ron Kreizenbeck, a 30-plus year veteran of the Agency, has been temporarily serving since July 10, 2006.

"I would also like to thank Ron Kreizenbeck, who has again ably served as Acting Regional Administrator," said Johnson. "As a charter member of the Agency, his expertise, experience, and dedication have allowed us to carry on our mission in Region 10 without missing a beat." Kreizenbeck will return to his role as Deputy Regional Administrator.
