SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is seeking public comments as part of the agency's effort to determine whether the Mohave Generating Station in Laughlin, Nev., contributes to haze in Grand Canyon National Park and what pollution control requirements should apply.
The EPA's public notice explains the agency's regulations for protecting visibility in national parks and wilderness areas and presents the methods and results of Project MOHAVE, the recently completed EPA study that evaluated the impact of emissions from the Mohave Generating Station on visibility at the Grand Canyon. EPA believes the study results indicate that the power plant contributes to visibility impairment at the Grand Canyon. EPA welcomes additional information from the public and will consider all available information before officially determining any future obligations of the Mohave Generating Station to reduce emissions of visibility-impairing pollutants that contribute to the Grand Canyon haze.
The notice is available on the EPA Region 9 Web site under Air Programs at https://www.epa.gov/region09/air . The notice will also be published in the Federal Register.
