WASHINGTON - EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan will visit three cities on a Sustainable Communities Tour on September 17 and 18, 2009. The officials will travel to Chicago, Dubuque and Denver and tour communities that have taken a comprehensive approach to improve access to affordable housing, provide more and less-costly transportation options, and protect the local environment for residents.
In June, EPA joined DOT and HUD in an interagency Partnership for Sustainable Communities. The partnership, working closely with the White House Domestic Policy Council, is focused on bringing a new level of interagency collaboration and ensuring that housing and transportation goals are met while simultaneously protecting the environment, promoting equitable development, and helping to address the challenges of climate change in rural, suburban and urban communities nationwide.
Additional details on the tour will be released in the coming days.
