Senate Passage of Everglades Restoration Legislation
9/25/2000
“For the first time in history, we have a comprehensive plan for making the heart of the Everglades pulse once again with clean, abundant water. We are very pleased with the Senate’s passage of the Everglades restoration language in the Water Resources Development Act of 2000. This legislation reflects the unprecedented efforts of the Clinton-Gore Administration, the Senate, the state of Florida, the environmental community and industry, to restore one of America’s greatest natural treasures. We urge the House to pass this Everglades legislation quickly.”
The legislation includes critical provisions for restoring one of America’s greatest natural treasures, the Everglades. This Everglades legislation, a top environmental priority of the Clinton-Gore Administration, provides a blueprint for a comprehensive plan that will restore, sustain and protect the Everglades. It takes the first critical steps needed to protect water quality, restore the Everglades and provide for urban and other needs of a fast-growing population of South Florida.
