(5/2/07) EPA is updating the regulation governing Superfund cooperative agreements and Superfund state contracts to promote greater involvement in the cleanup of Superfund sites by states, Indian tribes, intertribal consortia and other government divisions. EPA has issued a final rule, Cooperative Agreements and Superfund State Contracts for Superfund Response Actions, to make changes that will improve the administration and effectiveness of Superfund cooperative agreements and state contracts. These changes include such actions as incorporating policy changes since 1990 that impact this regulation, providing additional regulatory flexibility without negatively impacting cost recovery actions, and updating cross references to other regulations that have changed or been removed, as well as other administrative changes.
