EPA Extends Public Comment Period for Central Landfill Superfund Decision

BOSTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today that it is extending by one week the public comment period on its proposed plan for addressing offsite impacts of chemical contaminants from the Central Landfill Superfund Site in Johnston, R.I. EPA is proposing to not require any further Superfund remedial cleanup beyond that already underway at the landfill. Following a request from citizens at a public meeting last week, EPA is extending public comment on the proposed decision to September 21, 2001.
