EPA Employees Receive Service to America Medals

(Washington, D.C. – May 14, 2009) The Environmental Protection Agency announced that several agency employees were awarded the 2009 Service to America Medals by the Partnership for Public Service. EPA employees Cara Peck, Life Scientist in EPA’s Region 9 and Kristen Taddonio, Director of Climate Choice at EPA headquarters were awarded the Call to Service Medal, and Regan Murray and the Threat Ensemble Vulnerability Assessment (TEVA) Research Team in EPA’s Cincinnati office were awarded the Homeland Security Medal.

“I’m proud that among the many agencies and public servants across the country, our EPA team members are being recognized for their exceptional service and dedication,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “This is a well-deserved honor for individuals who work so hard to improve the lives of the American people.”

The Service to America Medals pay tribute to the best in the federal workforce and inspire a new generation to join in service. The medals honor federal employees who have shown a strong commitment to public service and have made significant contribution in their field of government that is innovative, high-impact and critical for the nation.

Cara Peck was recognized for helping urban areas improve food waste processing, promote new efficiencies and use refuse as a source of renewable energy. Kristen Taddonio is being recognized for creating a unique industry-government alliance that is accelerating adoption of greener technologies. Regan Murray and the TEVA Research Team were recognized for improving the safety of U.S. water supplies by designing a sophisticated software suite that identifies risks and solutions to possible terrorist attacks.

Other award categories include Career Achievement, Citizen Services, Homeland Security, Justice and Law Enforcement, National Security and International Affairs, and Science and Technology.

The winners of the 2009 Awards will be announced and honored at the Partnership’s Awards Ceremony on September 23 in Washington, D.C.
