(DALLAS – April 4, 2011) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is helping Arkansas take additional steps to assess the effects of pollutants and other stressors on the state’s freshwater resources. EPA awarded $343,200 to Arkansas to participate in a National Ecoregion Monitoring Program, a Wetlands Survey Project and develop a software program to interface the data.

EPA works with states and local jurisdictions to find methods to improve water quality monitoring data and analysis. Through the National Wetlands Initiative and other endeavors, EPA is building state and tribal capacity to analyze conditions and promote cross-jurisdictional collaborations. The data and surveys are used to understand aquatic life structure and provide accurate information about the health of the state’s water.
