EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING THE ADMIRAL HOME APPLIANCES SITE IN WILLISTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 regarding the Admiral Home Appliances site in Williston, South Carolina. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the old Williston High School Auditorium on Main Street.
EPA officials will discuss the results of the first phase of sampling conducted as a part of the Remedial Investigation. Documents relating to the study are available for public review at the Williston Public Library. All interested persons are encouraged to attend The Admiral Home Appliances site is located adjacent to Dixie-Narco Boulevard in Williston. The company previously manufactured refrigerators and freezers at its manufacturing facility which is currently operated by Dixie Narco. Industrial wastewater from the facility=s manufacturing operation was piped to a former domestic wastewater plant that discharged into a wetland area, which flowed into Willis Mill Pond. Since 1982, industrial wastewater from the manufacturing facility has been treated by the Williston Municipal Wastewater System.
