EPA ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE GRANTS

EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics has recently awarded approximately $4 million in grants to 50 non-profit organizations under its Environmental Justice through Pollution Prevention (EJP2) program. The purpose of the EJP2 program is to support local, regional, and national activities to prevent pollution in low income and/or minority communities and to foster cooperative efforts that engage communities, business, industry and government. Projects funded under this year’s program include a diverse collection of educational activities, training programs, restoration projects and collaborative ventures. The EJP2 program was established in 1995 by Administrator Browner and has supported nearly 150 local, regional and national programs, including the 50 newly added projects announced today. Geographically, the programs are
operating throughout the nation in rural and agricultural communities, urban centers, and Indian reservations. The EJP2 program is open to non-profit community organizations, Indian Tribes, and state and local government agencies. The Agency expects funding for the program to be available early next year and will request proposals at that time. Information on the EJP2 program is on the Internet at: https://www.epa.gov/opptintr/ejp2.
