BALTIMORE - Tomorrow will begin a special partnership between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. At a 10 a.m ceremony, Stanley Laskowski, Director of EPA’s regional Environmental Services Division, and Charlotte D. Wing, Dunbar High School principal will sign an agreement making Dunbar the first EPA school partnership in the state of Maryland.
Under the partnership, EPA’s Environmental Science Center, located at Fort Meade, Md., will work with the school’s Health and Science Academy, providing technology, guest speakers and professional mentors for the students. In addition, EPA’s Office of Analytical Services and Quality Assurance donated 19 computers and excess lab equipment to the school. EPA and the school are also working on establishing an internship program, enabling students to gain valuable hands-on experience at the lab.
The partnership also includes the Health Care Financing Administration which will help make students aware of health care delivery, trends, opportunities, and challenges.
"We are proud of this partnership with Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. This relationship will benefit all involved, strengthening the community and bringing the efforts of many people working together to protect the environment," says Laskowski.
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School is located at 1400 Orleans Street in East Baltimore. It has a student body of close to 1,000. This ceremony is being held in conjunction with the school’s Black History Month celebration.
