SAN FRANCISCO –Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency representatives will attend a public meeting in Saratoga to answer questions about upcoming air toxics monitoring at Stevens Creek Elementary School in Cupertino.

On Monday, EPA representatives met with school faculty and parents to give the school community an update on the monitoring plans. Tonight’s public meeting, hosted by the Santa Clara County Planning Department, is community-wide meeting regarding recent activities at the Lehigh (formerly Hanson) Cement Plant and Quarry.

In March, the EPA announced Stevens Creek Elementary School in Cupertino was one of four schools state-wide being monitored as part of a nationwide initiative to measure air pollution around schools. The EPA will monitor for chromium 6 at Stevens Creek Elementary School early this summer. The monitor, in place for 60 days, will be installed and operated by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

Tonight’s meeting is from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Saratoga Community Center, 19655 Allendale Avenue in Saratoga.
