Environmental cleanup in northeast Denver neighborhoods begins next month

- Denver -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today the allocation of $3.5 million to begin cleanup work at the Vasquez Boulevard and Interstate 70 Superfund site in northeast Denver. The cleanup of 141 residential yards in the neighborhoods of Cole, Clayton, Swansea, Elyria and a small portion of southwest Globeville is scheduled to begin in August.
The fiscal year 2003 Superfund budget for cleanup projects is approximately $277 million. In addition to the VB/I-70 site, the EPA will begin cleanups at 10 other sites across the nation.
