The final sweep of St. Tammany Parish for pickup of large appliances (white goods) and electronics by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Residents must have all their white goods and electronics curbside by Jan. 2 to ensure collection. Once the EPA and Army Corps collection operations are complete, normal disposal activities will resume and residents will be responsible for the disposal of these white goods and electronics.
Items included in the St. Tammany white goods collection include refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, stoves, ovens, microwave ovens, dishwashers, water heaters, washers and dryers. Televisions, computers and other electronics will also be collected. To ensure household pickup of these goods, residents should call 1-800-401-1327. After Jan. 3, residents may call St. Tammany Parish at 985-898-2323 with collection questions.
Residents must place their items by the road, but not in the road or in a ditch. Collectors cannot pick up white goods or electronics on private property.
The EPA and Army Corps have collected more than 50,000 white goods and drained more than 5,500 pounds of Freon from these units in St. Tammany Parish by mid-December. More than 1,500 pieces of electronics have been collected for recycling as part of this effort.
