FRANKEE GREENBERG TO DIRECT EPA REGIONAL OPERATIONS
EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner has announced the appointment of Frankee Greenberg as Director of Regional Operations. In that position, Greenberg will operate within the Administrator’s immediate office, directing liaison between the Agency’s headquarters and its 10 regions and planning and resource functions for high priority regional programs.
Greenberg has served in the Clinton Administration since 1994, first as Chief of Staff at the Federal Railroad Administration and then as White House Liaison and Special Assistant to the Secretary, U.S. Department of Transportation. She helped develop and implement policy on such issues as high speed rail, rail safety and Amtrak.
Greenberg held key staff positions in Congress and the California legislature from 1986 to 1994. She was Special Assistant to U.S. Representative Jane Harman (D-Calif.) where her responsibilities included managing issues relevant to California. Before that, she was an Regional Director to the President pro-tem David Roberti in the California Senate. In both of those positions, she helped develop and implement policy on numerous issues, including children’s health, women’s issues and the environment. Among the issues that she was directly involved with were the Presidential Environmental Forum in Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles harbor, the Los Angeles airport, the Alameda Corridor and Marina del Rey.
For 19 years, Greenberg was a Commissioner of the Los Angeles County Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission and served as chair for several years. She was a founding member and Director of Human Efforts Aimed at Vitalizing Youth, a non-profit Los Angeles organization. She served on the boards and in chair positions with several other California organizations dealing with local matters and children’s and women’s issues. Greenberg’s awards included “Woman of the Year, Los Angeles Inter-Agency Drug Abuse Recovery Programs” (1984), “California State Senate Resolution for Community Service” (1992) and “Los Angeles County Plaque for outstanding efforts on behalf of political advancement of women and selfless commitment to improving the lives of people in the community” (1992). She holds a bachelor’s degree from Antioch University.
