(Boston, Mass. – Dec. 8, 2006) - The City of Laconia, New Hampshire will be holding public meetings this coming week to discuss planning for future growth in three neighborhoods: Downtown, Lakeport, and Weirs Beach. Participating community members will work with a team of national experts. They will explore ways to promote growth that protects local values, fosters economic development, and protects the environment and public health.
Smart growth strategies encourage development that protects environmental resources and human health, expands economic opportunity and creates and enhances the places that people love. EPA’s role in this work at the community level is to provide information about best development practices from communities around the country that yield multiple benefits for the environment, public health, the economy, and the community.
