EPA to announce cleanup plan for Breslube-Penn Superfund site

PHILADELPHIA (April 13, 2007) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting on Wed. April 18 to get public input on its proposed plan to clean up the Breslube-Penn, Inc. Superfund Site, Coraopolis, Moon Township, Pa.
The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Coraopolis Council Chambers, 1012 5th Avenue, Coraopolis, Pa.
During the meeting, an EPA representative will outline EPA’s proposed plan for cleaning up contaminated soil and groundwater at the seven-acre site that encompasses the former Breslube-Penn oil facility. The industrial facility, which has been inactive since 1992, was previously used to refine used oils into fuel oil. The site included a lagoon, where oily plating waste was disposed.
EPA’s proposal includes installation of a modified cap and slurry wall containment system, and removal and treatment of contaminated surface water and groundwater.
