New Jersey And New York Facilities Win Prestigious EPA Award For Outstanding Operations And Maintenance

(#05132) NEW YORK -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presented awards on October 31 to the Mount Holly water pollution control facility in Burlington County, New Jersey and the Village of Lima wastewater treatment plant in Livingston County, New York for outstanding operations and maintenance of publicly-owned treatment works. The prestigious national Clean Water Act Recognition Award for operations and maintenance excellence was established in 1985.

"We applaud the exceptional personnel and innovative thinking demonstrated at these facilities," said Alan J. Steinberg, EPA Regional Administrator. "This kind of national recognition encourages employees and rallies public support for municipal and industrial efforts in effective wastewater management. We honor these communities for going beyond Clean Water Act standards and offer our full support in their continued efforts. Clean water is the goal and these are the folks that make it happen."

Mount Holly utilizes digital media, network resources, specialized guidelines and custom software to provide superb water treatment monitoring, control and performance in excess of compliance requirements. The facility also demonstrated outstanding storm water controls during recent severe flooding. Despite its small size, the Village of Lima plant has also demonstrated best practices to provide effective service and an exemplary performance record.

The award recognizes municipalities for demonstrating outstanding technological achievements or innovative processes, methods or devices in their wastewater treatment programs. The honors were presented at the annual Clean Water Recognition Awards ceremony during the Water Environment Federation's Technical Exposition and Conference in Washington, D.C.
