EPA joins UGA and Athens-Clarke County to Highlight Air Quality Improvement Project

(ATLANTA – February 19, 2010) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Acting Regional Administrator Stan Meiburg will join officials from University of Georgia (UGA) and Athens-Clarke County in an event that illustrates how funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be used to improve air quality and create jobs in Georgia.

The event will include a demonstration of how filters will be installed on buses, garbage trucks and other diesel engines to reduce the amount of harmful soot particles in the air we breathe. The demonstration will coincide with a day-long workshop at UGA that will educate city and county officials as well as community members on steps municipalities can take to reduce diesel emissions.
