EPA, HUD RELEASE LEAD PAINT TRAINING PROGRAM FOR MAINTENANCE WORKERS
EPA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have developed a new training program entitled, “Lead-Safe Practices for Building Maintenance Staff.” Designed for apartment building supervisors and workers the program provides instruction in work practices and techniques that can be used to prevent lead hazards when conducting maintenance work in multi-unit rental properties. Program materials incorporate an interactive learning format, including the use of video instruction and tools for training workers onsite. Approximately seven hours in length, the program is intended to encourage in-class discussion and an examination of real-life scenarios to help workers make informed decisions about safe maintenance practices. The course can be used as an integral part of overall training for workers in apartment buildings and other rental properties. The goal of the training is to help workers and supervisors better understand their roles in preventing lead exposure in children, themselves, their co-workers and the residents that they service.
