Federal officials will recognize National Education Week with a ceremony unveiling a powerful new resource for educators across the country. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will officially present the Teachers' Web Page.
Regional Administrator Gregg Cooke will lead live demonstrations of the site's capabilities and uses. The Department of Education Secretary's Regional Representative Sally Cain, representatives of U.S.Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson and Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk also are expected to be present.
"With this web page, we want to provide students and teachers with current, accurate and reliable information that children, parents, teachers and professionals can trust," Mr. Cooke says, who oversees federal environmental programs in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. "The page will inform educators about clean water and environment, ultimately resulting in better health for children and adults."
The Environmental Education Center Teachers' Web site is the third in a series of interactive environmental packages. The three were designed especially for Kids, Students, and now, Teachers.
Developed by a national team, this Internet site provides teachers access to accurate information geared specifically to the needs of educators in grades kindergarten through 12. The site includes curriculum resources and activities, information on applying for grants and awards, community service projects, workshops and conferences, and direct links to the EPA Library and other environmental web sites.
This new web page will help EPA fulfill its commitment to providing citizens reliable, timely and useable environmental information so they can make informed decisions about their daily lives. Other special interest sites include a recently revamped Kids' site for children 5 to 12 and a Students' site for children 12 and older. EPA's web sites currently contain more than 180,000 pages of information and record more than 8 million visits each month.
