ILLEGAL ANTI-FREEZE DISPOSAL NETS FINE
On Sept. 30, Yates Ford Inc., of Kirkwood, Mo., pleaded guilty to violating the Clean Water Act and agreed to pay a $14,600 fine in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in St. Louis. The charges arose from an incident on March 7 when Yates’ service manager directed two employees to illegally dispose of the contents of four 55-gallon drums of waste anti-freeze containing ethylene glycol and one half-full drum of gasoline. They directed the waste flow into a sewer drain connected to the St. Louis Metropolitan Sewer District, creating a risk of fire and explosion. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal
Investigation Division.
