EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING ON SHPACK LANDFILL SITE

BOSTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is hosting a public information meeting with the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on Wednesday, January 24th from 7 - 9 p.m. in the cafeteria of the J.C. Solmonese School, 315 West Main Street in Norton to discuss upcoming cleanup activities at the Shpack Landfill Site.
The US ACE will continue field work at the site later this winter. Activities include:
- Raising the power lines that cross the site to allow for the safe operation of equipment under and around the lines during future site investigations.
- Performing a more extensive characterization of the site to identify the extent and depth of low level radiological contamination at the site.
- Drilling soil borings into the landfill so that soil and water can be collected and analyzed for radiological contaminants.
