ADDITIONAL CHEMICAL CATEGORY PROPOSED FOR TRI LIST

EPA is proposing to add a diisononyl phthalate (DINP) category to the list of toxic chemicals included in the annual Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reporting. The proposal is in response to a petition by the Washington Toxics Coalition which contends that DINP causes cancer, systemic toxicity, developmental toxicity, and endocrine disruption. EPA reviewed the petition and available data and preliminarily determined that DINP meets the listing criteria and that there is sufficient evidence that chemicals in the DINP category can reasonably be anticipated to cause cancer or other serious or irreversible chronic liver, kidney, or developmental toxicity in humans. The listing is proposed under section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act. The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on Sept. 5, 2000. Comments must be received by EPA on or before Dec. 4, 2000. For technical information on the proposed rule, contact Daniel R. Bushman, EPA (MC 2844), 1200 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20460; telephone 202-260-3882; e-mail address: [email protected]/ Electronic copies of the proposal can be obtained at: https://www.epa.gov/tri.
