EPA awards $415,458 for new Huntington sewer lines

PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $415,458 grant to the Huntington Sanitary Board, city of Huntington, Cabell County, W. Va. to help pay for replacing residential septic tanks with new sewer lines in the Harveytown area of Cabell and Wayne counties, adjacent to Huntington.

“Elimination of failing septic tanks improves water quality while protecting public health. This grant to the Huntington Sanitary Board will help upgrade the community with a safe and efficient public sewer system,” said Donald S. Welsh, administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

Septic tanks used by the residents of Harveytown, along Harvey, Melody Branch, and Ratcliff Roads, have been malfunctioning, which can degrade water quality in local streams and create a public health hazard.

The grant will pay for 55 percent of the estimated $755,387 project cost and the sanitary board will pay the balance.
