THOMPSON TO HEAD CONGRESSIONAL, INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS
Diane E. Thompson joins the EPA as Associate Administrator for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations on March 1. She has been Associate Commissioner for Legislative Affairs at the Food and Drug Administration since 1994 with responsibility for Congressional, legislative and oversight matters. In her new position, Thompson will direct Agency matters and relations with the Congress, state governments and local governments. She was a partner with the Washington, D.C. public policy and political consulting firm of Foreman and Heidepriem from 1991 to 1993 and served Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) as Chief of Staff from 1987 to 1989 and Congresswoman Mikulski as Administrative Assistant and Legislative Director in 1986. She was legal counsel, PAC Director and Assistant to the President of the National Organization for Women from 1984 to 1985. She was a partner with the San Francisco law firm, Rogers, Joseph, O’Donnell and Quinn from 1981 to 1983 and she taught at the Hastings College of Law, University of California in 1982. Ms. Thompson holds a B.A. degree from Vassar College and a law degree from George Washington University.
