PEYA announces an "all call" for all students interested in bettering the environment

PEYA, or the President’s Environmental Youth Award, is sponsoring a competition to promote awareness towards the nation’s natural resources.  Each year, since 1971, PEYA has joined together with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to recognize youths for their work. The projects span a wide variety and may be done by individuals, summer camps, school classes (kindergarten through high school), and youth and public interest groups. Applicants from all 50 states are eligible for the final award and all are encouraged to participate.

The program is split into two sections - regional certificate, which is conducted throughout the year, and regional award, which is conducted only once a year. The winners each receive a certificate signed by the president in honor of their services. The regional certificate program accept submissions at any time during the year, while the regional award deadline is July 31, at which time panels from each of EPA’s ten regions will review their applicants and select a winner. The ten regional award winners each receive a presidential plaque at an EPA-sponsored award ceremony.

On the Web site, there are also examples of past award-winning projects such as building nature trails and starting recycling programs.
