FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
No. 06-OPA132
CHICAGO (July 27, 2006) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 has filed an administrative complaint and compliance order against Redeen Engraving Co., Elk Grove Village, Ill., for alleged violations of federal hazardous waste regulations. A $119,000 penalty is proposed.
Redeen, which manufactures brass and foil dies and has electroplating operations at 670 Chase Ave., was cited for violating the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act requirements for managing hazardous waste.
EPA alleges that the company stored hazardous waste without a permit, did not qualify for an exemption to the permitting requirement, and failed to document whether or not its waste was hazardous.
Under RCRA, EPA regulates hazardous waste from production to final disposal. Redeen can request a hearing or settlement conference.
