(#04081) NEW YORK, N.Y.: A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) inspection of Elmhurst Hospital Center on Broadway in Queens found violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery (RCRA) related to the improper handling and disposal of hazardous wastes. The facility failed to designate certain wastes as hazardous waste, which led to the improper disposal of fluorescent tubes, chemotherapy wastes, spent alcohols and lead acid batteries. The violations occurred in areas of the facility that are not accessible to the general public. The Agency issued a complaint that proposes a penalty of $73,562 for potential harm. The facility has since corrected the violations. |
