The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now accepting applications for Environmental Education Grants to be awarded in summer 1999, Regional Administrator Gregg Cooke announced in Dallas today. Applications must be postmarked no later than November 16, 1998.
"Region 6 received more than 100 applications for this year's grant competition and more than $200,000 has been awarded for environmental education projects in the five-state region. This response underscores the concern citizens throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas have for improving and preserving our environment," EPA Regional Administrator Gregg Cooke said.
Educational institutions, state and tribal environmental or educational agencies, and nonprofit organizations, including public broadcasting agencies, are eligible to apply. Region 6 is particularly seeking projects with direct student involvement and those dealing with children's environmental health issues.
The President has made children's health issues a priority of his administration. In keeping with this emphasis, Region 6 is seeking opportunities to educate people about these issues and steps they can take to improve children's environmental health.
Complete information on applying for an Environmental Education grant is available on the Internet at https://www.epa.gov/enviroed. Applications and instructions also may be obtained by calling EPA Region 6 at (214)665-2204 or (800)887-6063 ext.2204.
"Educating everyone, and particularly our young people, is vital to creating and preserving a healthy environment for ourselves and future generations," Cooke said.
