PHILADELPHIA – The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $873,000 grant to the City of Titusville, Crawford County, Pa. to help pay for upgrades to the city’s sewage treatment system.
“These upgrades will help alleviate problems with sewage overflows, and provide the Titusville area with a healthier environment and better quality of life,” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.
The project includes installing a new 3,000-foot sewer line along Water Street and upgrading the city’s sewage treatment plant to improve capacity and the level of treatment.
Funding will also be used to modernize the city’s three pump stations and to help pay for sewer repairs on Meadow Lane, South Perry Street, Dairy Street, and South and North Franklin Streets.
The grant will pay 55 percent of the eligible portion of the construction costs. The balance of the project is being funded with local funds.
