FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1997
EPA'S PESTICIDE DIALOGUE COMMITTEE TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING IN MARCH
EPA's Pesticide Dialogue Committee will hold a public meeting on March l8-19 in Alexandria, Va. Among the major issues will be work group reports and full committee discussions on: the l993 Government Performance and Results Act which mandates the measurement of budgeted program activities within the federal government; minor use pesticides and the registration of pesticides to meet emergency conditions (Section l8 of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act); improving public communications, as well as the public brochure regarding pesticide residues in food required by the l996 Food Quality Protection Act. The meeting will be at the Ramada Hotel, 901 N. Fairfax, Alexandria, Va. (Old Town area). The Dialogue Committee of approximately 25 members was established in l996 under the Federal Advisory Committee Act to foster communication and understanding between the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) and parties represented on the committee. The committee provides advice and guidance to OPP on regulatory, policy and issues associated with evaluating and reducing risks from the use of pesticides. Membership includes representation from the pesticide industry and trade associations, pesticide user and commodity groups, Federal and State governments, consumer and environmental/public interest groups, the general public and members of the congressional staff. Margie Fehrenbach is the committee's designated federal officer in EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs (telephone: 703-308-4774).
