EPA TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA REGARDING HEAVY- DUTY/DIESEL PROPOSAL

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, June 22, 2000 regarding the Heavy Duty/Diesel proposed rule for cleaner air. This proposed regulation would protect the public health and the environment of all Americans by reducing the sulfur content in highway diesel by 97 percent and lowering emissions from heavy duty trucks and buses by 95 percent. Diesel Engines are more durable and get higher fuel economy than gasoline engines, but they tend to pollute more. EPA estimates that Air pollution from heavy-duty trucks and buses will start to rise in the next decade, with serious repercussions for the nation's air quality.
