CLIMATE, STRATOSPHERIC OZONE PROTECTION AWARDS PRESENTED AT INTERNATIONAL ATMOSPHERIC CONFERENCE
During the Earth Technologies Forum to be held Sept. 27-29, in Washington, D.C., EPA will present awards to 24 individuals and organizations from nine countries and nine states and the District of Columbia for creating innovative approaches to protecting earth’s atmosphere. The Forum will be at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill (202-737-1234), and expects to draw over 800 individuals from 40 countries to discuss ozone protection and current climate protection technologies in the marketplace. The 1999 Stratospheric Ozone and Climate Protection Awards will be presented at a dinner in the Hyatt Ballroom, on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. with remarks about the importance of atmospheric protection given by Robert Perciasepe, EPA’s Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. The conference is sponsored by the International Climate Change Partnership (ICCP), and the Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy, in cooperation with the EPA, the United Nations Environment Programme, and several other government and industry groups, and international government departments. The Stratospheric Ozone Protection winners are: Per M. Bakken, Norway; David Clarem UK; Sheila Jones, Canada; Ingrid Koekeritz, Sweden; Robert T. Wickham, Stratham, N.H.; Theresia Indrawanti Pudiyanto, Indonesia; Jacinthe Seguin, Canada; James Shevlin, Australia; Liu Yi, China; The Cannon Group, Italy; Canadian Forces Fire Marshal, Department of National Defence, Canada; Idaho National Guard, Combined Support Maintenance Shop, Boise, Idaho; Project Management Office for Bradley Fighting Vehicle Systems, Warren, Mich.; and Wei T’o Associates and the National Library of Canada, Matteson, Ill., and Ottawa, Canada. The Climate Protection Award winners are: Dr. Rosina M. Bierbaum, Washington, D.C.; Dr. Mack McFarland, Wilmington, Del.; Eugene L. Smithart, P.E., LaCrosse, Wis.; Applied Materials, Santa Clara, Calif.; Motorola, Austin, Texas; Annapolis Detachment of the Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Annapolis, Md.; Nissan, Japan; Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association, Washington, D.C.; STMicroelectronics, Italy; and Texas Industries Inc., Dallas, Texas. Since 1990, EPA has given out 417 Stratospheric Ozone and Climate Protection awards. The media is welcome to attend the Forum and awards dinner.
