U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Deputy Administrator Fred Hansen will join local officials for a tour of the Pine River in Lake County, Michigan at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 23. After the tour, Deputy Administrator Hansen will discuss the community's success in restoring and preserving the Pine River, and the importance of EPA, state and community partnerships in keeping the nation's water safe and clean. Deputy Administrator Hansen will also discuss a report on clean water and the nation's economy. The report "Liquid Assets: A Summertime Perspective on the Importance of Clean Water to the Nation's Economy" demonstrates that clean water is a vital commodity that provides a stimulus for local economies. The report outlines the impact of clean water on regional economies surrounding the Great Lakes, and identifies five key sectors of the U.S. economy that rely on clean water to promote sales and profits, create local jobs and boost local economies.
