INDIANA MAN SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL SEWAGE DISCHARGE
On Feb. 25, George Pfaffenberger of Seymour, Ind., principal agent for Leslie Lake & Country Club Inc., (LLCC) was sentenced by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana in Indianapolis to eight months home detention, two years probation, and was ordered to pay a $25,000 fine. Pffafenberger violated the Clean Water Act by illegally discharging untreated sewage without a permit. As principal agent for LLCC, Pfaffenberger operated a septic system for the Leslie Lake Subdivision. Evidence indicated that during the early months of 1996 Pfaffenberger discharged approximately 650,000 gallons of raw sewage from the septic system into a wetland via a pipe. The wetland drains into Mutton Creek which drains into the Muscatatuck River, a tributary of the Ohio River. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division.
