U.S. EPA GIVES GRANT TO CLARK COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT

     $5,000 grant will fund outdoor science lab to study wildlife habitats
 
     SAN FRANCISCO --The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced the award of a $5,000 environmental education grant to the Clark County Conservation District in Las Vegas.  

     Clark County's Wasden Elementary School Schoolyard Wildlife Habitat Project will establish an outdoor science lab to study wildlife habitats.  Fifth and sixth grade students will be involved in the research, design, installation, and use of six habitat sites. Parents and staff will contribute in the planning and construction phases of the project. A video detailing the construction and completion of the habitats will be provided to other schools in the district and in the desert southwest.      Including the Nevada grant, EPA awarded grants totaling $160,000 to 19 organizations in California, Arizona, and Hawaii. Recipients of the grants include school districts, colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, and city, county, tribal, regional and state government agencies.

     The grants, awarded under the National Environmental Education Act, provide funding to support projects that will address significant environmental issues.  The organizations contribute matching funds.
