EPA Region 7 Participates in Missouri River Cleanup

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Kansas City, Kan., Oct. 15, 2010) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 7 staff will participate in a Missouri River Cleanup Oct. 16 sponsored by Missouri River Relief.
Boats will ferry volunteers to the river banks and islands to pick up trash that has washed up on shore. Other volunteers, including youth groups, will pick up trash along the banks, trails and parking lots.
Missouri River Relief has hosted 55 Missouri River cleanups, bringing a total of 12,000 volunteers to clean 537 tons of trash from 588 miles of the river. The organization has participated in and hosted cleanups in six states, from the Mississippi River to Yankton, S.D.
WHAT: A team of EPA employees will join other partners in a Missouri River Cleanup. Volunteers can sign up online at www.riverrelief.org
WHEN: The cleanup is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Oct. 16, 2010
WHERE: French Bottom Boat Access next to Remington Nature Center, 1502 MacArthur Drive, St. Joseph, Mo. Directions: Travel north on I-29 toward St. Joseph and take the exit for I-229 north toward downtown. After traveling seven miles, take Exit 7/Highland Avenue. Turn right on Highland Avenue. Take the next right on MacArthur. Follow the signs to the parking lot by the boat ramp.
