PROGRESS REPORT ON FOOD QUALITY PROTECTION ACT;
RIGHT-TO-KNOW PESTICIDES AND FOOD BROCHURE IN SPANISH
EPA recently published a new report on its progress in carrying out the Food Quality Protection Act over the past three years. Highlights in “Implementing the Food Quality Protection Act: Progress Report” include how EPA has taken several actions to eliminate or reduce the use of pesticides on foods commonly eaten by children, and registered several new, safer pesticides that pose less risk to the public and environment, and that can be used as alternatives to older, more toxic conventional chemicals. Other accomplishments detailed in the report, include external outreach efforts that have resulted in greater public participation in many of EPA’s pesticide programs, the establishment of sound, new science policies, and the creation of programs that support integrated pest management practices, among others. Copies of the progress report are available by calling 703-305-5017, or at: https://www.epa.gov/oppfead1/fqpa/. EPA has also released copies of its FQPA right-to-know Pesticides and Food brochure in Spanish. Under the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA), EPA is required to provide the public with information on the risks and benefits of pesticide use, and ways they may reduce their exposure to pesticides. The right-to-know brochure was first published earlier this year in English. The brochures published in both Spanish and English are available at: https://www.epa.gov/pesticides/food/ , or by calling 1-800-490-9198.
