EPA Offers Free Workshop to Small Businesses on How to Get Technology Funds

PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will host a one-day workshop to teach small businesses how to win contracts under EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research program. The agency’s environmental technology needs also will be explained.

The workshop will be held at the EPA’s regional offices at 1650 Arch Street in Philadelphia, Pa. on Wednesday, April 6, 2005. Co-sponsors include the Temple University Small Business Development Center, Innovation Partnership and Innovation Philadelphia.

Through the Small Business Innovation Research program, EPA makes monetary awards to small, high-tech firms to develop and commercialize cutting-edge environmental technologies. A small business is defined as a for-profit organization with no more than 500 employees, and the research must be conducted in the United States.

EPA solicits applications and awards contracts of up to $70,000 to investigate the scientific merit and technical feasibility of new concepts. Companies that successfully complete this phase can compete for two-year contracts of up to $225,000 to conduct the testing and research and development needed to commercialize the new technology or product.

This workshop will emphasize practical, useful information on critical elements of the program, including writing winning proposals, commercialization and sources of assistance.
