(06/24/03) Administrator Christine Todd Whitman today announced that chief EPA Spokesman Joe Martyak will step down as Associate Administrator for the Office of Public Affairs on July 18, 2003. Martyak will be assuming a position as Vice President of Communications and Client Relations at Van Scoyoc Associates, Washington’s largest independent government affairs firm.
“Joe has been an integral part of our team, working to communicate complex issues in understandable terms and EPA will miss his talent,” said Administrator Whitman. “Joe has been an exceptional spokesman for EPA. EPA’s loss, however, is Van Scoyoc Associates’gain and I wish Joe nothing but the very best.”
“Working under the remarkable leadership of Administrator Whitman and with the employees of EPA for the past two years has truly been the highlight of my career,” said Martyak. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with so many talented people who are dedicated to improving the environment and public health.”
An announcement about a replacement for Mr. Martyak will be made in July.
